Spaceit, a space technology company providing an end-to-end infrastructure for satellite operations, and CybExer Technologies, a NATO-awarded Estonian cybersecurity company developing and maintaining cyber security training platforms have signed a joint activity agreement to offer satellite operations related cyber exercises. The live-fire exercises enable participants to simulate attacking and defending of a satellite mission, expanding their cybersecurity skills into the space domain.
Space has become a new frontier in cybersecurity. Today there are nearly 6,000 satellites circling the earth. This amount will double in a few years. Majority of these satellites are controlled by operators using ground stations on Earth. Critical commands could potentially be intercepted, jammed or even overridden.
„Satellites have become an integral part of Earth’s critical infrastructure and many technical systems rely on their operations. With the satellite operations cyber exercises our aim is to increase knowledge of cyberspace of satellite operator and personnel responsible for management of defence systems and procedures“, said Aare Reintam, COO of CybExer Technologies.
The life-fire exercises are conducted using the Satellite Operations Simulator (SatOpSim) jointly developed by both companies. The SatOpSim is a virtual simulator for satellite operations deployed in a cyber range, a controlled environment for cyber exercises, testing and validation. The real-life dashboards, control systems, different live threat scenarios and demanding tasks give exercises participants the experience and skillsets necessary on the new frontier in cybersecurity.
„We are delighted to join forces with CybExer Technologies. Using the SatOpSim in life-fire cyber exercies, we help participants to develop and test communication protocols, ground station network management, satellite fleet management and optimisation and operational procedures in a safe environment where personnel, technical, and organisational capabilities can be assessed, analysed, and developed,“ added Silver Lodi, CEO of Spaceit.
Spaceit provides an end-to-end infrastructure for satellite operations. The company is focused on making access to space simple and affordable. Spaceit offers a single platform and accompanying services for satellite operations, ground station services and cybersecurity, including a cloud-based Mission Control Software, aggregated marketplace for ground station services, satellite simulations.
CybExer Technologies, a NATO-awarded Estonian cybersecurity company providing and maintaining cyber security training platforms with a special focus on cyber capability development. The company’s platforms are the key to the successful delivery of a plethora of cybersecurity trainings and exercises aimed at ordinary users, technical responders and the very top of strategic leadership.
